Why American Rabbits?
American Rabbits are a dual purpose breed that can be used for meat or fur. Developed in California in the early 1900s, the blue variety is known for having one of the deepest blues of breeds recognized in North America. Listed on The Livestock Conservancy's watch list, the breed is also included in the Ark Of Taste - a collection of small-scale, endangered flavors by the Slow Food Foundation Center for Biodiversity.
An Undemanding BreedOriginally bred for their fur as much as their meat, this breed retains a beautiful, low-maintenance coat that doesn't require excessive grooming.

FlavorWhen it comes down to it, flavor is a top priority for any meat animal.
American Rabbits are known for flavorful but lean meat that produces less grease during cooking than other breeds. |
Mothering AbiltyAs a family farm, temperament was an important aspect of choosing a rabbit breed when we began. These sweet-tempered, docile rabbits were perfect, especially combined with their natural mothering ability.
